This post is less about what I love to put into my body, and all about what I like to put on my body! When I first moved to Victoria, my skin was not happy. The unavoidable stress of moving coupled with the drastic change in humidity was a little hard for my skin to handle. I struggled so much with trying to get my skin to normalize. My lovely friend Rachael – this girl is a true wealth of knowledge, and always has the most inspirational words of wisdom – hearing my struggle, suggested this crazy little thing called oil cleansing.
I resonated with this method so deeply – this process of straying from the norms, and choosing to nourish your skin with simple ingredients was so up my ally. Much like my beliefs in our diets, I believe we don’t need fancy products for our skin – we simply need the basics. I actually understand now that just like processed food products, many skin care products have it all wrong.
When you use harsh soaps and cleansers to strip away the natural oils produced by your skin, your skin is just going to produce more oils! Using cleansing and nourishing oils takes us back to basic chemistry, like dissolves like. The cleansing oil, when massaged into your skin will dissolve pore buildup, while keeping keeping the pH and natural oils on your skin balanced and happy.
Without further ado, let me allow Rachael to explain this crazy little method for the healthiest, most nourished skin.
The Oil Cleansing Method With Rachael
How to make:
Combination skin: equal parts olive oil and castor oil
Dry skin: 2 parts olive oil and 1 part castor oil
Oily skin: 1 part olive oil and 2 parts castor oil
How to use:
Pour a dime to quarter size amount in your hand and massage it all over your face. Once the oil is on your skin take a clean cotton cloth and run it under HOT water. Ring out the excess water and place it immediately on your face. This should feel like a facial! Allowing the hot cloth to steam the skin. Do this routine 1 to 3 times. Pat your face with the damp cloth and you are good to go!
Do this before bed as your face will feel a little oily. That is normal! Your skin will absorb the natural oils throughout the night and feel refreshed the next day! Give time for your skin to adjust to this new routine as it will take a few weeks to notice a real change!
If you have an angry pimple/spot allow it to be opened up with a hot cloth (NO PICKING/POPPING) and put a drop of tea tree oil on the spot. This will sting a little, but it is a great spot cleaner/remover.
