The Story Behind Wildwoods Nutrition
My name is Melissa Greenwood, Registered Holistic Nutritionist. I first created Wildwoods Nutrition back in 2016. Wildwoods Nutrition was initially to be a place in which I could simply share my passion for plant-based nutrition with the world – through working one-on-one with clients to help them adopt a healthy plant-based diet, through recipe creating, and through blogging.
The outdoors have always been a huge part of my life, growing up in Western Canada – and having unlimited access to some of the most beautiful landscapes, and spectacular wilderness destinations. Summers were spent camped out by quiet mountain lakes, and winters spent snowboarding through fresh, natural snowfall – the wild has always held an irreplaceable space in my heart.
Since the initial launch of Wildwoods Nutrition, I started to wake up, and realize a deeper sense of urgency in the environmental issues surrounding our societies dietary footprint on the planet – and the fact that if we don’t become more mindful of our consumption, and the way in which we are trying to feed our exponentially growing population, that we may see these wild places that we hold so near and dear, start to deplete and disappear before our eyes. Wildwoods Nutrition then evolved and established a deeper purpose – to inspire, educate and advocate for an environmentally sustainable, plant-based diet.
A background in nutrition originating from childhood – growing up in a wildly health-conscious vegetarian family – my mother the owner of a health food store, raised us with a deep understanding of the importance of good nutrition. My passion for health then only grew stronger through research and a deeply embedded curiosity. In 2015, I received a diploma in Holistic Nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and then went on to deepen my knowledge of plant-based nutrition by completing the Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Program through Cornell University.
